The Place of the Little Birds (i.e. Bunyonyi)

Last weekend I went with a couple of friends to Lake Bunyonyi in the southwest of Uganda, right next to the Rwanda border, and spent a couple of days on an island (Bashara) in the middle of the lake.

Some absolutely incredible flora on the island.

There were an incredible amount and variety of birds on Bashara Island. They decided to join us for breakfast.

Here is what we affectionately named the "Party Dock" because it was beautiful and a lot of fun to swim at. (P.S. This picture was taken by my friend Alison.)

This is a picture of Prisoner Island. Apparently the locals used to banish people who did bad things to this tiny plot of land. The lower part is the end of the hollowed out canoe we were rolling in.

Lake Bunyonyi is a paradise and anyone heading to Uganda should take time to relax there. It is very economical and undeniably beautiful.
